Power Industry Support

The U.S. power industry has become a very dynamic arena in recent years. Changes in the regulatory environment, coupled with the demand for new generating capacity, have resulted in dramatic restructuring of the market. New plants are being planned and built at an extraordinary rate, and many existing facilities are being upgraded. The need to get this new capacity to market quickly is greater than ever before.

Permitting

Because delays caused by regulatory demands can prove costly, the increasing need to get generating capacity into production makes an understanding of the environmental requirements more important than ever before. Our ability to identify what agencies need to see in an application provides for timely completion of the permitting process. We avoid expensive permit liabilities by negotiating solutions in the beginning stages of a project

Steigers Corporation staff has been successfully providing permitting and other environmental management services to the power industry for more than 20 years. Our projects include new thermal power plants, expansion and refurbishment of existing power plants, hydroelectric projects, system planning studies, and project development. Our project experience also includes siting and permitting transmission lines, both those associated with power generation projects and those being constructed to serve other types of projects.

Steigers Corporation staff is intimately familiar with all the permits vital to the power industry. We have extensive experience with Clean Air Act permits, including Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) and minor source permits, Best Available Control Technology (BACT) determinations, compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), and Title V operating permits. Our Clean Water Act expertise includes NPDES permits, stormwater discharge permits, Section 404 and Section 10 permits, and Section 401 certification.

Due Diligence

Steigers Corporation can also assist you in conducting due diligence reviews for the acquisition of existing operations. We help you evaluate the environmental status of an operation including potential environmental liability, environmental conditions, and regulatory limitations that may affect the operation of the property before you commit to purchase the property. We can assist you in identifying potential problems associated with water treatment and/or discharge, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management and disposal, air emissions, and other state and federal regulations. We focus the evaluation on identifying issues that would have significant environmental costs associated with them and could be a substan-tiald liability to your company.
